Pagejacking
The act of using another site's content on your own website. The purpose of doing this is to try to increase your own search engine ranking by using already proven content. However, this technique is likely to damage your site's search engine rankings and is therefore best avoided as ineffectual, quite aside from being copyright theft.

PageRank Leak
PageRank (PR) can be considered as a scoring mechanism that allows a web page to pass a portion of its score through a link to another web page. This portion is dependent on two things - a " weighting" which prevents PR from spiralling out of control, and the number of links on the web page on which the link appears.

If all the links on the page are internal (i.e. pointing to other URLs on the same website) then all the PR is passed to other pages on the same site (minus the weighting). However, if one of more of the links point to pages on other website, that portion of PR is passed out from the current website. Many webmasters consider such loss to be leakage, not because the page on which the link appears loses any PR (in fact the mechanism does not reduce the PR of this page), but because internal links are considered to "recycle" PR around the current site, whereas outbound links send PR to other sites.

Page Views - Impressions
A single view of a web page, document or some other item to be measured by views. More correctly called impressions, they are usually priced in thousands, where a cost applies - see CPM.

Paid Inclusion
Paid inclusion search engines accept a fee in return for inclusion in their index. Such activity is rare now as Google (running a free inclusion model) dictates the market at this stage. Inktomi (now owned by Yahoo) used to run a paid inclusion model. The big three search engines (MSN, Yahoo and Google) do not require any payment for inclusion at this time.

Part-Of Relationships
A part-of relationship occurs when one keyword or phrase is part of a larger group represented by another keyword or phrase.

Pay-for-placement
The concept that a site can be placed somewhere specific in the search engine results for a fee. None of the organic search engines run a pay-for-placement model in the main search results. However, PPC results, such as Adwords and Overture Sponsored Listings are essentially a pay-for-placement model.

Pay-Per-Click (PPC)
Pay-Per-Click is an advertising system whereby a charge is incurred each time a visitor arrives at a website by clicking a specific link (or one of a specific group of links). Each new click generates a new charge. PPC if the model used for Google Adwords and Overture, among other providers.

PHP
PHP is Pre-Hypertext Processing language, a specific coding language that is processed at a web server. This means that the server can dynamically alter the resulting web pages before they are sent across the Internet to the browser. This is a common way of generating website from database content.

Portal
A portal is a website that provides a gateway to many resources, either from the same service provider or from others. It's use is derived from the Latin "Portus" meaning gateway. MSN's site is a portal as it provides access to many different services, including news, search and email.

The Four Ps - Price, Place, Promotion, Product
Price - The price of the goods or services, Product - The attractive features of the goods or services, Promotion - Any special offers or gratuities offered with the goods or services, Place - The location at which a customer can procure the goods or services.

Primary Feed
Primary feed is the term used to describe the main provider of data upon which a search result set is based.
